When Language Is Not a Barrier (A story of two people who don't understand each others language but they speak everyday)...

Location: Basement, a residential building near Khar Subway, Mumbai                                                                Time:     9:30pm

I regularly walk by this very old lady sitting at the basement of our building. Quite a few times, I have seen my friend talking to her in a very caring tone. My stress throughout the day, disallowed me to ask this friend, an out of towner Rajasthani, currently well settled in Mumbai; the reason why he sits there and chats with her. Until one day, I could not resist and asked him about the kind of conversation he has with this old woman.
It seems the old lady is a Maharashtrian and a resident of Mumbai having born and bought up here, and has a family staying very close by to where we stay. Her immediate family, her only son has disowned her due to reasons that are very convenient to a few youngsters these days.
I also got to know from my friend’s colleague that he regularly helps this lady with breakfast, lunch and dinner almost every day without fail. Now, we do not cook extra at our bachelors pad, but my friend ensures that we do not waste any morsel and do not throw anything in the dustbin. Every extra food goes to feed and help the upkeep of this lady.
A few important question here:

a)       Why do people we care for throughout our lifetime disown us and why does some stranger help us when we need our own people around us?
b)        What does our education system teach us? Does it not teach us all lessons that life has in store for us or is it just materialistic teaching that is inculcated in us ?

And finally, how does one understand each other when we do not speak or understand each other’s language and still get to know about each other so well that the bond just defies all logic?

And all the time when I ask him that how does you understand that what she is trying to say,he always reply me back with a quite smile and then I don't ask him anything.......................

I am sure you will agree with me that humanity speaks the language that very few humans of our times understand and my friend, dear readers is one of them ………………

The Black Sheep.........................................

Minister of state for home Satej Patil’s initiative to accept only notebooks as his birthday gift makes for a welcome change from the extravagant birthday celebrations by politicians. Patil, who collected more than 5.5 lakh notebooks on his 39th birthday on April 12, plans to distribute them to the students of the schools run by the Zilla Parishad and the civic bodies in the district.
Since 2007 Patil instead of accepting garlands, flowers, installing posters or issuing advertisements, accepts only notebooks as his birthday gifts. So far 16.27 lakh notebooks have been given to 3.80 lakh students in 380 schools.
“Generally supporters install huge posters, issue advertisements in newspapers and gift garlands and flowers to politicians on their birthdays. It is just a waste of money. So, since 2007 every year I appeal my supporters to bring notebooks instead of garlands or other gifts. The initiative has received a good response,” Patil said.
The two-time Congress MLA collected 2.12 lakh notebooks in 2007 and since then the number has been increasing. He collected 4.38 lakh, 4.66 lakh and 5.10 lakh notebooks in 2008, 2009, 2010 respectively.
“The cost of the notebooks collected since 2007 is estimated around Rs1 crore. This would have been a waste if I had celebrated my birthday in a routine manner,” he said.
“Installing posters deface the city so I discouraged it and asked my supporters to bring notebooks,” he added.
“A single notebook costs just Rs10. So a common man can also wish me easily instead of wasting Rs50 on a single garland. The person who gifts me a couple of notebooks does not feel that he is wasting his money,” he said.
Students from standard I to IV get two notebooks each, while students from standard V to VII get three and students from standard VIII to X get four notebooks.
Well he is one who knows his responsiblity atleast ......................................................

The Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizen's ombudsman Bill) is a draft anti-corruption bill drawn up by prominent civil society activists seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal, an independent body  that would investigate corruption cases, complete the investigation within a year and envisages trial in the case getting over in the next one year.
Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and other known people like Swami Agnivesh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Anna Hazare and Mallika Sarabhai are also part of the movement, called India Against Corruption. Its website describes the movement as "an expression of collective anger of people of India against corruption. We have all come together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government to enact the Jan Lokpal Bill. We feel that if this Bill were enacted it would create an effective deterrence against corruption."
